Historic Mailman’s Ladder (near Uravan, Colorado)

Mailman's Ladder off CO-141 (near Uravan, Colorado).

This is one of those places and stories that blows the mind. If you look up high, you'll see some carved steps...and a cable...on this very steep formation. Each day, someone would come down that slickrock face to pick up mail in a mailbox by the road below. The mail would then be taken back up and delivered to uranium miners in the area.

Mailman’s Ladder…view of the carved steps and cable used by those delivering mail back in the day.

The cable.

Another view of the cable and location of the Mailman’s Ladder.

You can find the Mailman’s Ladder along the north side of State Highway 141 at Mile Marker 82…when driving between Uravan and Gateway, Colorado.
