Colorado Ghost Town: St. Elmo, Colorado

Colorado Ghost Town: St. Elmo, Colorado.

St. Elmo is often regarded as the most well preserved ghost town in Colorado. It was born out of mining in 1880 and taken down by the loss of railroad service (1922). Postal service ended in 1952, sealing the dwindling town's fate toward eventual ghost town status.

Today, all of the properties are privately owned. Though St. Elmo is often called a ghost town, a very small number of people live there all year, with the General Store being open 7 days a week starting Mother's Day weekend through the last Sunday in September.

Though fun to visit in the summer months, there's just something magical about being there in the winter.

St. Elmo is located ~20 miles southwest of Buena Vista.
